The difference between a release that moves and a release that disappears is rarely the song. It is almost always the four weeks around it — whether there was a plan, and whether that plan had one clear job per week instead of forty tabs open at once.
Week one: get the asset set finished
Before anything is announced, the release should already exist as a complete package inside your workspace: title, release type, date, artwork and your smart link. Add the release in Music from your Spotify or Apple Music link and the details fill themselves in, so you spend the week on the parts only you can make.
- One vertical clip that works with no sound and no context.
- One still image you can use everywhere without redesigning it.
- Three sentences about the song you can repeat without getting bored.
- Your smart link, tested on a phone, going to the right destinations.
Week two: tell the people who already care
Your existing audience is the cheapest and most reliable launch channel you have, and it is the one most artists skip because it feels too small. It is not too small. Message your mailing list from Fans, post the announcement to your community, and make sure your public page at your handle already shows the release as coming.
A hundred people who open your email will do more for release week than ten thousand people who scrolled past a story.
Week three: pitch and place
This is playlist and press week. Pitch from Grow while the release is still unreleased — editorial and curator consideration mostly happens before the date, not after it. Keep every pitch specific: what the song is, who it is for, one reference point, one link.
Week four: release, then hold your nerve
Release day is a start line, not a finish line. Keep the same message running for the next fortnight instead of switching to a new idea every 48 hours, and watch your smart link clicks and page visits to see which channel is actually carrying the song. Then let Zoe read those numbers and tell you where the next push should go.
Four weeks. One job per week. That is the whole method — and the reason it works is that it removes the panic, not the effort.
